Goodreads asked Laila Ibrahim:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Laila Ibrahim It seems to me that you have to really care a lot about either what you are writing about or about writing itself. It is a crazy amount of work. You have to care so much that you just have to do it. It's a little like having children. It's not a rational thing to do.

One of my favorite metaphors about parenting is that it is like holding a bar of soap. Squeeze too tight and it pops out the top. Hold it too loosely and it slips out the bottom. You have to grip it just right to keep hold of it.

Writing is similar. You have to care enough to do it and keep at it, but you can't force it.
