Thank you for your Ian Rutledge and Bess Crawford series. My husband and I so enjoy your books and must toss a coin to see who gets to read the latest book first! Will Ian and Bess maybe join forces to solve a mystery in the future?

Dear Chantal:
Thank you for your kind note. I am delighted to hear that you and your husband enjoy these mysteries. Ian has been mentioned in some Bess Crawford Books as Bess has been mentioned in the Rutledge mysteries. There are two difficulties. First the timelines of the two series are not the same and so it poses problems. Second and most important, we did not create Bess to be Ian's nurse or wife. She is her own very independant person. Some have suggested they work together professionally on a case. While the time difference is an issue it poses some interesting possibilities. I will consider that when I have established both series continuing. I have written the manuscript for the next Rutledge and am working on the edits. I was hoping to begin the next Bess mystery this month, but it appears that it will be in May.
All the Best,
Charles Todd

I am halfway through An Irish Hostage and love it just as much as all the previous Bess books. I absolutely LOVE Bess’s independence and admire her for it. However. I’m dying to see Simon and Bess finally admit they love one another! 🤣 Thank you for these amazing stories! How many do you intend to have in the series?

I love your series, particularly since I am very interested in WWI. I hope you won't be in a hurry to find a wife for Ian. As you said, his PTSD is not something that is going to miraculously go away. Is there any chance you might give us some more information on his war service, besides the tragedy involving Hamish? Those four years had to have a profound effect on anyone who served.
