If you have a story inside you, tell it. Write for yourself, not for other people. When I first started writing Brown Leather Shoes I wrote for me. I wrote because I had an idea that I wanted to explore and because, above all else, I enjoyed it. So my advice is to just go for it. What's the worst that could happen?
