Not to sound like Dory here, but literally I just keep writing. I'll make a loose outline before I start writing a story; nothing serious, just enough to get the wheels turning. But sometimes while I'm in the middle of a book, I can feel the story wanting to go in a different direction, so I'll follow where the story itself is trying to go.
