Goodreads asked Ruth Thompson:

How do you get inspired to write?

Ruth Thompson I was inspired to write my first book, You Can Be Well, to let people know there is more to health than running to the doctor when illness strikes. As a holistic nutritionist, I was painfully aware that attention to the prevention of illness is not top of mind for many people, and certainly not afforded any resources by the health care system. I was upset by our “sick care” system not only because it encourages people to cede responsibility for their health to doctors, but because it is not a sustainable model for health care. At some point, the sick care model will not be affordable. We need to do more to keep people well. I wanted to encourage readers to be well by taking charge of their health through diet and lifestyle choices.

Some years after completing You Can Be Well, I wanted to write another book about health and healing but came to believe that a novel would be more fun to write and more fun to read. Stories resonate with people more than a long list of health do’s and don’ts.

As an avid reader, I had searched for a novel about a holistic health practitioner, but could not find one. So I decided I would write one. A Heart for Healing is the first novel with a holistic health practitioner as the lead character.
