If you aspire to write, start writing. Some books can take years to write and that's okay.
If you don't believe you can write, find a mentor, teacher or take online courses on writing. Read books about writing. For creative writing, my two recommendations are: "Save the Cat Writes a Novel" by Jessica Brody and "Understanding Show, Don't Tell" by Janice Hardy.
Find an accountability partner. That's how I finished writing my novel.

The idea for "A Heart for Healing" came from my experience as a holistic health practitioner. I wanted to tell a story that would dramatize the issues: the lack of respect and relegation to the fringes of health care even though holistic health is all prevention and natural healing. I wanted to entertain readers while educating them on the importance of a holistic health approach to maintaining wellness. The woman's story addresses family life, marriage, motherhood, and career - aspects of life that many women deal with every day.

I am currently working on two projects. One is the sequel to "A Heart for Healing" with the continuing story of Georgina's struggles to make it in her holistic health profession. The other project is non-fiction, the follow-up to "You Can Be Well: The Holistic Nutrition to Guide to a Healthy, Balanced Life." The working title is "Aging Well: How to Increase your Health Span."

I was inspired to write my first book, You Can Be Well, to let people know there is more to health than running to the doctor when illness strikes. As a holistic nutritionist, I was painfully aware that attention to the prevention of illness is not top of mind for many people, and certainly not afforded any resources by the health care system. I was upset by our “sick care” system not only because it encourages people to cede responsibility for their health to doctors, but because it is not a sustainable model for health care. At some point, the sick care model will not be affordable. We need to do more to keep people well. I wanted to encourage readers to be well by taking charge of their health through diet and lifestyle choices.
Some years after completing You Can Be Well, I wanted to write another book about health and healing but came to believe that a novel would be more fun to write and more fun to read. Stories resonate with people more than a long list of health do’s and don’ts.
As an avid reader, I had searched for a novel about a holistic health practitioner, but could not find one. So I decided I would write one. A Heart for Healing is the first novel with a holistic health practitioner as the lead character.
