A Goodreads user asked Joe Posnanski:

The Baseball 100 was incredible, Joe. I could have done The Baseball 1,000 and devoured every word. Besides Musial, which players' essays were the most challenging for you to complete?

Joe Posnanski I know it's cliche to say that each essay provided its own challenge ... but I would say that's really true. As I hope comes through, I wanted to make each one special.

Probably the most challenging were the essays of players people already know a lot about -- DiMaggio, Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Ruth etc. With those players, there has already been so much written that finding a new way to tell their story was a test. But you definitely picked the one that was most challenging -- that was Musial because I knew him and wanted so much to have the essay live up to just a small part of his greatness. Thanks for the question!
