Where did the idea for this series come from? Did it fall fully fledged from the heavens or was it something that came together over time?

Brian Staveley My original ideas for this series are so far from the books you're reading that you wouldn't even recognize them. There was, for instance, a huge amount of space devoted to a young Urghul girl in the original. There was a pirate queen named Omara Havast. There were immortal, indestructible creatures tortured in secret in the deepest dungeons of a temple known as the Spire.

The final product evolved quite a bit. For which I think we can all be glad...
