Goodreads asked Julie Morrison:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Julie Morrison The writing!

Probably anyone who plays with some art form knows the sense of wonder that comes from sitting down with the chosen form and finding something completely unexpected. Things come to me on the page I didn't know I could find, or be capable of explaining. I suppose for the non-artsy the best parallel would be going on a walk on the beach and witnessing a pod of dolphins swim by, or, on some days, a walrus. When I write I have that same sense of hope as walking a beach, hoping I'll see something fabulous. Each time I do I'm gleeful, but it's never something I feel responsible for creating. If something comes, it's not from me, but because I was there I could tell about it.
