Goodreads asked Julie Morrison:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Julie Morrison My best writing comes when I have some bounce to contribute - some sense of play instead of just commitment, or, worse, discipline. A sense of obligation on the part of the writer must be like a bad case of BO to the muse, so if I am in an "I have to" spirit, I've learned not to expect creativity to join me. Getting a change of scene can help perk things back up—even just taking a walk, or cleaning the kitchen—there have been so many times I've walked away from a page and am just clicking on my dog's leash or loading a plate into the dishwasher when a new line comes and I race back to my laptop ending up with pages of a whole new scene I would be nowhere close to if I had just forced myself to sit there until something worked.
