I am not a fan of books that make protagonists of "not nice" people. I hated Gone Girl. I didn't care for Savannah at all. Whatever justifications Joy found Savannah's actions were unconscionable. Most of us face disappointments and failures w/o setting out to destroy the lives of those who we think responsible. I felt Savannah didn't get her just desserts. Wonder if anyone else felt this way?

Moriarty's books are more nuanced that what one might call genre fiction and characters are conflicted. Also, I found the scene at the end, when Savannah visits her mother, to reveal a great deal about the depth of her depravity. (less)
