After recommending The Sharing Knife (my favorite) to my husband's family (I am American he is German) they found that the Lakewalkers invoked an image of Gypsies rather than Native Americans. In most European minds, "gypsy" usually causes a negative reaction. I also noticed TSK was only translated up to book three in German. Was the series less well-received in Europe, including the UK?

My books have not sold well in German. But it's also possible the publisher never noticed it was 4 books, not the expected trilogy -- that happened with the Russian edition. I believe we did eventually catch up with them and get the 4th through, but I didn't know about Germany. Urgh, but too late now, as the books are out of print and out of license.
I really don't think many of my foreign publishers pay much attention to my work...
But no, gypsies weren't in my stock of (several) inspirations for the Lakewalkers.

I know you visited and enjoyed Croatia, and you must know that you have a serious number of loyal fans from there (myself, my mother, and my grandmother included), and name Oliver Jole is a combination of two Croatian folk singers names, Oliver Dragojevic, and "popularni Jole"... They are pretty awful if you ask me, but I can't help thinking that maybe you have a funny story about that?

Is Aral's middle name Selig, making it actually little Selig's middle name? If so, what is his first name? Or is it Grandpa Sasha's middle name? Or did they not go with tradition? I know it's certainly a name in Vorkosigan history. You use a lot of British idioms in the V books - is that to give them a certain "not from around here" flavor, or just phrases you yourself use, or?

I just found my account was hacked, so that might explain some of the garbage appearing randomly under reviews (assuming my account is not the only one to be hacked). Some of the other "questions" are patently there to get people to click on their profile names even if no links are embedded. Goodreads' security options are lacking - e.g. we don't have to approve "friends". And authors have no ability to approve Qs?
