Any particular writing exercises you swear, or swore, by?

Lois McMaster Bujold Nope. I just sat down and started trying to write pay copy, i.e. my own stories. Took a while to get it any good, of course.

I have a weird stubborn aversion to writing things I don't choose for myself. Early attempts were very uncomfortable. I started avoiding such tasks as soon as I could.
