Goodreads asked Richard Diedrichs:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Richard Diedrichs I think writers are compelled to write. We cannot not do it. We will always come back to it. For me, even if I'm stuck, and I'm always kind of stuck (because it can be grueling) when I'm writing (as opposed to revising), I let it have its own process. I did not feel like writing yesterday, in fact I was avoiding it. Today, I'm ready to get into it. Or I might just put in a few minutes and not worry about it.

There was a time when I didn't write for about four years (I was feeling discouraged) and it was hard. But, I went through that and eventually I started writing something, and I was back. Just be as conscious as possible, don't be too hard on yourself, and follow your gut.
