Why not use the power of Astrophage to destroy Venus's atmosphere disrupting its breeding cycle? Sure it would not have been easy, but it would have been much easier and more realistic than interstellar travel to a new solar system for the first time. Or maybe build a huge solar shield blocking light from the sun so Astrophage can't find the sun and starves. I guess it would have made for a much duller story.
