I just want to say how much I ADORE your books. They have an atmosphere unlike any other that feels strangely comforting to be in - I'm always excited to return to your worlds again. I don't know how you do it - weaving such complex stories that are just as deep as they are light-hearted. I thought I may as well ask - how do you do it!? Where do the stories come from?

Mark Lawrence Hi Lucy - very glad you're enjoying my work.

Ideas are the easy part of writing - writing them in a compelling way is the difficult bit. The stories just come off the ends of my fingers when I'm typing. It's a rather like dreaming, albeit in a more controlled/consistent way.

Hey Mark! I'm reading the Emperor of Thorns now and i'm more and more curious. There are torture, rape and some other kind things in the books. Especially the Bad Dogs part in the third book. How can these ideas come up in a someone's head? I mean You were a biology scientist if I'm correct, I persume you are not thinking about these things when you working. So my question in short, how did You get these ideas?

I loved Jorge and that story line, and I can't wait to finish us with Jal. The best part of your work is the intense serious story and then Bam! Something so ridiculous that it has me laughing like a crazy in the break room. My husband and I joke about getting a bigger bear all the time. do you find yourself laughing at your comical moments when you write them? What do you do for inspiration to put a bit of levity in?
