Random thought here, as Ash is considered a "Lunar Dragon" by the motes he intakes, would type would technically be his parents? As I don't really see any specific mixture causing that specific outcome. or is the species of hatchlings based on chance? I know this kinda ruins the "mysticality" (that a word?) of the book, but this was something that intrigued me as I'm currently in my genealogy classes.

(view spoiler)[At the risk of ruining things for you, dragons don't have parents as we typical do. It's to do with a flight's collective song - the music and communal element brings eggs into being. The notes of certain dragons can descend to an extent, and some dragons will claim ancestry like we do based on the strength of those notes but it's a not a direct matter of genetics. (hide spoiler)]

Just finished your short story in the Lost Lore anthology and really enjoyed it. I'll definitely read the Dragon's Blade series. Too bad Elsie is just in this story. She's a great character. I'd love to have seen how things played out once she & Balliol started serving the king. I'd like to think they eventually made Lord Heath suffer the consequences of his actions. Any chance there is a follow up short story?

Hi Michael, I loved Ascendant (just finished reading it yesterday, actually!), but I was curious: where do mystic dragons get their motes from? Brode mentions that they come from thoughts, but how does that work? Also, are there any dragons that get motes from the sun, or does that fall into the fire dragon category? Thank you!
