Lisa asked this question about Girl A:
What did you think of Ethan? In particular, why is Lex able to forgive him, but never come anywhere close to forgiving her mother? Do you think he was any more or less complicit than her mother was in the abuse? Is he truly evil of just a victim of the abuse? I would love to read a sequel from Ana's point of view about ten years down the line when she and her children need to escape his abuse and Lex helps them.

Charismatic people tend to be manipulative, especially ones raised with religion. I think he did what he had to as a child. It's hard to blame him fully as from the age of about five he was brainwashed by his father. He didn't get a childhood where he had an opportunity to be good, whereas the mother did, in fact, even seemed to have had a normal (if not ideal childhood). She had a life before the father.

I also do not think that Lex has forgiven Ethan. She tolerates him but is aware of the person he is, and knows how much he partook. She is clearly uncomfortable around him. (less)
