Lisa asked:

What did you think of Ethan? In particular, why is Lex able to forgive him, but never come anywhere close to forgiving her mother? Do you think he was any more or less complicit than her mother was in the abuse? Is he truly evil of just a victim of the abuse? I would love to read a sequel from Ana's point of view about ten years down the line when she and her children need to escape his abuse and Lex helps them.

Egan Reeve Ethan is charismatic, he draws people in. This is something he likely learned from his father. Charismatic people tend to be manipulative, especially ones raised with religion. I think he did what he had to as a child. It's hard to blame him fully as from the age of about five he was brainwashed by his father. He didn't get a childhood where he had an opportunity to be good, whereas the mother did, in fact, even seemed to have had a normal (if not ideal childhood). She had a life before the father.

I also do not think that Lex has forgiven Ethan. She tolerates him but is aware of the person he is, and knows how much he partook. She is clearly uncomfortable around him.
Judith Ethan was/is a sociopath living a lie, and in no way has Lex forgiven him, nor will she ever! (Why did you think that?) His actions are indefensible, but he was a child himself so is less complicit than the adult mother who stood by & watched. Ethan wasn't victimized like the others, didn't help them, so yes, he's evil and is still living a lie. At the wedding, Lex told Ana they need to talk...& it won't be about Gabe, she's going to tell her the truth!
