Just in the way Philosopher's Stone ends on a cliffhanger - the story itself wraps up in a very satisfying way and if they released no more books in the series you'd still have a full experience.
However it's clear this is the first of a series and there are so many more things to discover about this world and hopefully we'll get to see the characters grow up. I read a lot of middlegrade fiction for work and normally I find them generally boring/obvious. This was the first middle grade fantasy I've read in awhile that really excited me!

It kind of does. It ends in the way so that a second book could pick it up or just be left as a stand alone book. Also the second book is out now. Amari and the Great Game 5/5 stars for both.

Yes it does-ish, but I have to say the way it ends makes it seem that not all of the stings are tied. Hope this helps!

The events wrap up well for the most part, but there is a cliffhanger that opens it up for subsequent books. This looks to be the first of a series and not a standalone, so one is expected. This book was just released, so I am unsure when a second book will come out. Still, it was a really good middle grade read!

Also. It’s perfect for ANY fifth grader! Not just a girl! It would be an amazing read aloud.

No not a cliff hanger so you are safe
