The ending felt true to the rest of the story. It was rendered in a highly realistic way, and in reality we rarely understand why such things happen - we don't have a bird's-eye-view and a scientist's understanding of global events as they happen. Most of us would find ourselves as powerless as the families in the book so the author accurately captured how limited the characters' understanding of their own situation would be, especially in the moment.

I think by the end, we're meant to understand that the story is more about the internal change in these characters than it is about the actual disasters. in the outside world So the ending brings their emotional arc, but it concludes with more questions, because that's what the characters have. They don't have any answers. I get how it would be frustrating; I usually hate (HATE) cliffhangers, but for me, the author knocked this one out of the park. We saw all the stages of grief, shock, etc. that the characters went through in the first few days of this disaster, and we're left with those emotional stage coming to a conclusion, as the characters are about to have to accept things no one wants to accept; plus, at least in the immediate future, they won't have a real explanation for these things. They thought they were going to get one from Danny, but they couldn't.

That's the point. We will create the ending. How will we destroy the planet?

I too would have liked to know what was going on in the outside world but the ending was true to the rest of the story. The characters don't know what's happening, the reader is given a few side glimpses that things are not going well back in the city, our families still have no clue but are scared for their lives. I found the ending realistic.

I disliked the ending also thought there would be more explanation about the strange events that were happening?
