It can symbolize daring, and courage, and in some cultures, it is believed that the plant can be used to ward off evil spirits, and in others, it is said to bring good luck. In England, the Scarlet Pimpernel is sometimes called "shepherd's weatherglass" because the flowers only open in the sunshine, and so can be used to predict the weather.(less)
