Hello! I absolutely loved the Winterhouse series and I was wondering what inspired you to include all of the codes and ciphers in the books?

Hi, Amelia--Thanks for reaching out...and glad to hear you enjoyed the series! I've always found wordplay and word games enjoyable--everything from Scrabble to Hangman to crossword puzzles and acrostics--and I thought it would be fun to work a lot of that stuff into my books. Codes and puzzles seem kind of interesting on their own, but I also thought it would be nice to include them as a way of bringing Elizabeth and Freddy closer together as friends, while also helping them solve some of the mysteries they encounter in the hotel. Mostly, though, I just love playing around with words!
