This is my first book from Dean Koontz. Decided to listen to the audio book when I saw the ratings of it. 4.14 is quite a lot on here so I thought OK, let's do Mr. Koontz now. Three hours in and I thought this was one of the worst things I have ever read(listened to). Is this his style in general? Am I not getting something here?

I think Koontz's later novels have definitely not reached the standard of his works in the 80s and 90s. The most recent books all seem to have recurring themes, and I'm tiring of his constant hatred of science and his devotion to conspiracy theories about science. It's beyond strange why an author would waste so much time on this theme is so many books.

This is pretty typical Koontz, although I'd say not as good as some. I always suggest to new Koontz Readers to start with Watchers. If you want just a straight thriller with no government conspiracy, I would suggest Intensity. If you want something a little lighter read Tick Tock. Many of his books have paranormal and underlying government conspiracy themes so if you are not crazy about that then I wouldn't suggest to read anything else by him.
