Alison
Alison asked Robert Dugoni:

Please could you tell us how you kept going through your first novel? Did you self-publish,find an agent, throw it away and start a new one because your first want up to your standards...? In other words, how did you go from a guy writing a book to Author Robert Dugoni?

Robert Dugoni Good question. I was rejected 42 times, then found some luck and met and EPA agent with a story to tell. It became The Cyanide Canary and I had many agents interested. Understand that through my rejections I took a step back and studied the craft of writing, Chris Vogler's The Writer's Journey, Sol Stein, Donald Maass, Steven James and others. So when I got my break, I was prepared. My writing was in good shape. I had edited and rewritten the rejected manuscripts and my agent read and loved them.
Thanks for asking.
