When you're writing a sequel or series, what are the key elements you decide to bring forward from the previous book(s)?

Every story has to stand on its own. You can bring characters forward, especially the protagonist and the villain, but the story arc itself, the journey that the protagonist is taking and needs to solve needs to complete so the reader doesn't feel cheated into buying the next book just to see what happened.

Hi Mr. Dugoni, thank you for your wonderful novels I listened to all Tracy cross white series they are fabulous!! And cried a lot after reading “the cold trail” I can’t stop wondering why haven’t they turned into TV series? Each book presented in a season?😍

I LOVED Sam Hell. I just ordered Damage Control and the 5 set series David Sloane. I also own a couple of the Tracy series and look forward to reading them. Can you tell me which other books you have that are standalone like Sam Hell and not part of a series? Thank You!!!
