Shirley Spangle I agree completely! I did a double take when I read it and wondered if I missed something along the way. It seemed so out of character for either of them. I'd be interested to know what prompted the author to slip that into the book.
Candace Pettie I agree! I liked this book until the last couple of chapters as I felt the ending was rushed and some of the actions seemed out of character or completely unnecessary to add into the story.
Lisa I agree completely. It kind of spoiled that particular part of the book for me.
Missy Bratland Yep, felt the same way. It just didn't fit with the characters or story, nor was it necessary.
Nancy Goldman I just finished it this afternoon and thought the same thing. Just seemed odd and a bit out of character - almost like it was snuck in there to see who would catch it😉
Tara Aldredge Yes! I really enjoyed the book, but I thought the same thing in that scene.
Linda Greenberg I agree. I actually thought someone else wrote that section or snuck it in when no one was looking. I loved this book and read it in one sitting, but that part jarred me because the tone felt wrong.
Terri I agree - also the comment about her grandfather "pissing" himself. It just didn't go with the rest of the book.

Wendy I loved the book, but I absolutely agree, the weed comment didn't fit in.
Laura I just finished the book and I’m so glad to see this question and the other reader’s answers. I completely agree! I re-read that part a few times because I was so surprised by them smoking weed. The ending overall felt rushed to me and left some big holes in the story. Strange...

Susie Absolutely. Caused me to downgrade my rating. It was like there wasn't enough sleaze, so throw some in.
Traci Absolutely agree. Just posted my review of the book and that was my main thing, that scene. It's like "Was this supposed to be in THIS book?" It felt very jarring, given that neither character had even hinted at that behavior before. (and I am not offended by that behavior in any way...just for the record).
Nancy I agree! It seemed so out of place and unnecessary.
Nanette Fandino-Diaz I thought the same exact thing.
Susan Siow I agree! Really unexpected and unnecessary!
Bonnie I was jarred by that too! Totally out of place and not necessary to the story.
Penny I agree that it didn't really fit the narrative.
Susan Schuler I agree. It felt out of character for Natalie to me.
Mindy I completely agree! I reread the sentence because I thought I missed something. Did not fit into the story at all. I wonder why the author added that? So glad you asked this question and so many people answered......glad it wasn't just me who felt this way. :)
Tracy GH Yes!!!
Like what???? Where did that come from!?
I didn’t enjoy this book at all and I read a lot.
Linda Johnson I agree! It really changed my feeling about the story, along with a couple of things that I note in my review.
Jill Miclean So glad you posted this because I felt the same way. I actually reread it and thought to myself what?? It was like the author used someone else to finish the last chapter. Rushed ending and actions from characters out of place and what a disservice to her grandfather for his story to end on a footnote in the epilogue. :(
Annemarie Thompson Ok, so it wasn’t just me.
It was pretty odd to me.
Sherry Thompson Yes. I thought it was weird.
Sandy I agree. I reread that several time. Did not seem to fit in.
Wyndspirit Yes!!! I thought the book was fantastic, but that bit was jarring and pointless. Everything else large or small was carefully foreshadowed and tied into the narrative.
Wayla Yes! Where did that come from??
Deb Dahlby Where was her editor? She/he should have caught that and removed it.
Carol Holder Agreed! That seemed like a weird thing to slip in there.
Crystal Anderson Completely! And I agree with other commentators, totally not in the personality of either character.
Karen Wahl I agree! It just came out of nowhere and certainly didn’t add to the storyline.
Jillrw I’m so glad I’m not alone about that part.
It really kind of ruined the happy ending because I just
Kept think about that random reference.
Sally Gray I agree that it just came out of nowhere! A little disappointing.

PattiP YES! That came out of nowhere, and was really incongruent to the whole story! Where did that come from??
Barbara Carlin I guess she felt so comfortable she was willing to loosen up more.
Susan I agree completely. It seemed out of character for both Natalie and her parnter.
Kelly Niehaus Yes! It actually made me pause while reading thinking, what? Wonder if it was to wrap up the old her who was miss reliable and predictable???

Kim Dulle Yes! Thank you! It was like I was reading along and had to hit the brakes and do a double take. Very odd for this book.
Michelle Seemed like part of her mother's thing. Maybe some they found? I think that was overlooked during editing and wasn't taken out.
Amy I agree. It was out of character and unnecessary. I suppose it fits the marijuana culture in the Bay Area.
