Sam Kaufman
Sam Kaufman asked Lindsay Buroker:

I'm a fellow writer, I was wondering if you had any advice for me? Like, how can I make sure my book is nice and polished before I publish?

Lindsay Buroker I learned a ton by participating in an online writing workshop for a couple of years. I critiqued the works of other authors, and they critiqued mine. This was a great way for me to learn the ropes and sell some short stories before I moved on to finishing novels and getting them ready to publish.

If you already have a novel, and you've gotten some feedback on it and believe it's close to ready, then hiring an editor is a good next step, especially if you intend to self-publish. The Reedsy.com marketplace has over a thousand freelance editors listed.

If money is tight, you could try finding some other authors in your genre (great if you can find a couple of grammar pros) to do manuscript swaps with. They beta read for you, and you beta read for them.

I've also heard good things about ProWritingAid, software to help you find grammar issues and flubs in your manuscript.

Good luck!
