I don't think you have to, no. I started with this one--I hadn't even realized it was considered part of a series until I came on here to review it!--and did just fine. The heroine of this novel is best friends with the heroine of the first book (The Apple Orchard), but I didn't feel like I was missing anything important by not having read Tess's book first.
It appears to be the trend lately to set a bunch of books in the same general geographic area and call it a series even while labeling each individual book as a standalone novel. It's been my experience that the books in this type of series have only a loose connection to each other--often the location, and maybe a few characters, if that--and really can be read on their own.

This explains why the storyline with Tess's dad seemed like kind of a strange detail. I felt like I was missing something any time it came up. Thanks for filling me in! I think I might like the others.

I agree with the previous answers. I didn't know that there were earlier books until I finished this one, and I didn't feel like I missed out on backstories.

This book connects with characters from a previous book, but you do not need to have read the prior books. I think it is more of a standalone than part of a series in that respect. You do not need the knowledge from the prior books to enjoy this novel.

I read it as a stand alone and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Without giving away spoilers, this book references the cliffhanger ending of the Bee Keepers Ball as if the cliffhanger has been resolved in the intervening years. Is there another book that fills in the gap? I feel like I’m missing a big piece of the story!

if i knew there were 2 other books before i read it i wouldn't of read it. it was a chick flic in book form. something i usually avoid watching on t.v.
Kelly Niehaus
I had no clue it was part of a series/didn't notice. Guess I have more reading to do...lol!
Sue
I loved the book, but what about her car? Did she ever retrieve it? Maybe I missed it, but I kept thinking she could have sold it & used the money!

The first two books should be read in order, but this one can stand on its own. On some author sites, I've seen where some title are part of the series and others are part of the "universe" which is the case here.
Gail Carriger has series and universes. I think Michael Connelly does as well. Keeps me on my toes.

I didn't know it was part of a series. I thought it was fine.
