YES and it made me crazy!! After finishing the book it is clear this was just an editing error (and, as you say, how could they not have caught that??) but when I read it in the first half of the book I was sure it was a breadcrumb dropped by the author and I kept trying to fit it into the story -- maybe Pete isn't real and is actually a ghost??!! Maybe Femi is a ghost and/or a figment of Duncan's imagination??!! Maybe Duncan is intentionally lying and we are going to understand why later on??!! I kept trying to fit the inconsistency into the story that would make it make sense and this proved distracting enough that it really took away from the story for me. Very disappointing.

I did notice this and thought surely that would be an important tidbit later, but it wasn’t.

It drove me crazy too, I went back to the beginning of the book to see if it was the same 'Pete' or if there was another character named Peter Ramsay...and then something happened to him but we don't know what...???

Yes!!! came here to ask this same question and glad you already posted it. I thought that it would be relevant to the story since the mixed up names were only a few pages apart and it was so annoying that it was just an editing mistake. It is driving me bonkers because I don't usually notice these small details and I was so proud of myself for catching it and thinking it'd be relevant!

I'm late to the party but, same! I thought this was a hint that Hannah was an unreliable narrator and kept thinking this would lead to some big bang at the end...nope, just a plain old continuity error :-D

Yes that threw me off. Pete and Duncan...then Duncan says it was him and Femi.
