Anne-Marie asked Isabel Allende:

I am a Spanish student, and your beautiful novel La casa de los espíritus was the first book I read entirely in Spanish (I read it during the first semester of this past school year). What do you think of the English language version of your books? Do you feel that some of the original "spirit" or tone of your writing is lost in translation?

Isabel Allende The House of the Spirits was translated by Magda Bogin and she did a splendid job. For many years my translator into English was Margaret Sayer Peden, with who I worked very closely, but unfortunately for me she is now retired. I have been very lucky with my translators in the United States.
