I liked the book! I just finished it and I may have missed it, but anyone has any idea of who were the two married people having sex at Will and Jules’ room that Aoife walked on in the middle of the wedding party?

Mark Maddock I thought it would be Hannah and Luis. It's almost as though it was meant to be and it got left in there in error! I agree that it was strange that it was left in there as a loose end.
Elaine Forster Their identity is totally irrelevant to the storyline! It simply reinforces Aoife's point that the help is invisible.

Isabella I WISH that this could have been Hannah and someone else-- because Charlie is so spineless. But at the same time, thank god it was not her because it would have morally corrupted the only likable character in the book.

Pretty sure it was just a random couple and inconsequential to the plot.

Carrie Glad someone else asked this because I wondered about it as well. I think the answer about it being a random couple and reinforcing the idea that the help is essentially invisible makes the most sense. Aoife was indeed the eyes and ears of the place.

Jamie Ha! Very good point. I remember thinking that it would unfold to be Hannah & Luis as well, but on reflection, and looking at other comments below, I think it was purely to reinforce the sense of debauchery amongst the guests and highlight the sense of separation between them and the hosts.
Kathi Strunk I also think it is more evidence that not everyone at the wedding was enamored or respected Will and Jules.
Toni It wasn't so much that two people were getting it on, that puzzled me, or even that they were married to other people. I kinda wondered who was ballsy enough to use the bride's room for their little tryst.
Tracey Came here to specifically ask the same thing!!! Who was the couple???? After reading responses I agree the whole point was to show that the Aoife & the 'hired help' doesnt matter and they are invisible to this crowd of people. Did speculate that it was Hannah & Luis until the reveal at the bar & tequila shots.

Judy Lindow I think this little anecdote serves a couple of purposes. Aoife muses, people at the wedding are like "children without their parents present", which parallels the impulsive, immoral behavior of the boys at the boarding school during their survival games. That the couple is married, stresses that there are "always secrets around the fringes of a wedding". It also establishes again how unruffled and single minded Aoife appears to be.

Crystal I've read through the proposed answers and I did read this question (but not the answers) before I read the book. I noticed the scene and thought for a few minutes or would be Hannah and Luis but that interaction quickly went sideways so I'd now say definitely not.
I took it to speak to the mentality of these people letting loose and behaving badly overall.
I like the suggestion it was Jules's mom and dad but I think the wedding planner would know who they are. The only married people not sitting together were Charlie and Hannah, though, so the wedding planner knowing who sat together wouldn't help her place them as a couple.
The help seeming like furniture and making clear the kind of immoral assholes the group is made of seem the best answers to me.
Anna Elizabeth I wondered the same, but realized it was shared to shed more light on the chaotic setting.
Diane Dudas Huth I really didn't think about this upon finishing the book. When I read it , I just saw it as adding to part of the frustration, stress of dealing with being a wedding planner that Aoife was dealing with. Perhaps adding to a build up of her stress level.

Milan Maskey Just a random couple it seems. I would very much like to see Hannah and Luis in that room to keep the storyline interesting but alas, the big reveal........... messed up the scene. I think Lucy could have changed the order of her writing (1st. Hannah and Luis in the bedroom & 2nd Luis and Luis's friend revealing Will's past).
Mikka Just some random guests whom I believe were having sexual relation despite being married to other people. Aoife was pointing out something general that I think is not something unusual in some weddings and the fact that they don't really care about her seeing them, as she's of no importance... a furniture, as the author termed them. It wasn't relevant but I think the author was just pointing out the absurdity in some weddings. A reality maybe? I wouldn't really know as I've never had anyone in my life telling me of such stories.

Patty Cee I thought Hannah and Luis also, but didn't Aoife meet them and know them well already? Unless she didn't see their faces well enough to determine that it was them, but I'm going with Hannah and Luis!
Joan Westgate The incident occurred at the story's beginning. The two couples having a hot affair that Aoife walked in on, was actually Will & Jules, just prior to their wedding ceremony.
Colleen Definitely not Hannah and Luis. She was too classy (maybe the only one there that was classy) to do something like that. Her marriage was important to her and what it represents.
