I am just making sure I didn't miss anything, as I am not familiar with "Same Time Next Year" - but why did Mallory and Jake make this arrangement as opposed to just dating? Why not just be together?

And the ending was anti-climatic since it was given away in the beginning. I'm a huge fan but did not like this book.(less)
