Completely agree. The character Jake was so weak & I found the plot slow & frustrating. It’s a throwback to a time when women waited forever for a man no matter what, I thought we’d moved passed that. Instead of heralding a strong, fulfilled & self assured woman, the fact she spends 11mnths & 3 wks of each year waiting for his return eventually starts to feel pathetic, no woman in this era with an ounce of self respect would agree to languish her life away. Also an avid fan of her works so far but this didn’t have the depth of character & plot her books generally do. In fact it’s the 1st time I’ve read a book based on a movie-it’s usually the other way around! The movie was implausible & depressing too, two people who end up actually truly committing to no one. Hoping her next effort surpasses this disappointing one
