Amy asked Jeff Hobbs:

Hi Jeff. I just finished your book and I can already tell that it's going to be one that stays with me. I thank you for your commitment in telling a story so personal and yet so universal - the mystery of why and how we make choices and why and how circumstances both shape them and play a part in their consequences. Do you think colleges like Yale need to do more than just encourage poor students academically?

Jeff Hobbs Hi and thank you for your very kind words. Yale and many other schools, I believe, have been investing a great deal into providing more than just encouragement over the last decade. It's very heartening. The difficult aspect is how, even with all the resources available in schools (writing tutors, career services, counseling, etc), those resources are mainly available to students who ask for them. And the students most inclined to ask are those who, from the day they were born, were led to believe that adults existed to help them. Someone like Rob, who from a very young age was forced to see himself as a functioning adult, was always loathe to ask. Best, Jeff
