Did anyone else really dislike Mia? I found her story really unsympathetic. Not because of the way it was told, which clearly tried to show the nuances in motherhood. But it was a devastating story, because Pearl was really meant to be someone else's child. The couple were so lovely to her and so desperate to have a child. To be fair to Celeste Ng, I don't know if I could ever be sympathetic to that situation...
