Goodreads asked R.E. Vaughn:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

R.E. Vaughn Read and write a lot. There's no way to learn the vernacular, the language of writing, if you don't do both. And find an author whose work you both like and respect, read their works extensively, learn to emulate their style (how they write) so you will eventually find your own as well as your own voice when putting pen to paper. And don't confuse emulation with plagiarism, but know the difference between context and content. Don't ever lift the contents of another writer's work and copy it as your own. That's cheating and trouble you just don't want to have to explain or deal with legally. Be genuine, be yourself, be true to your readers.
