R.E. Vaughn I love reading—and writing—collections of short fiction, mostly short stories and flash fiction. Micro fiction too. My own experiences in life and that of others (as told or known to me) are precious memories, full of interesting dilemmas and resolutions, that shouldn't be forgotten. Writing them down, sharing them (with permission, of course) is a great way of remembrance, a wonderful way to leave something unforgettable behind as we move on through life.
R.E. Vaughn Prompts. They're everywhere around us. I don't have to look for them. People and the strange situations and circumstances they deal with day to day are more than enough to inspire me to write.
R.E. Vaughn At the moment, nothing other than editing a few select stories written by friends who have come to love writing as much as I do.
R.E. Vaughn Read and write a lot. There's no way to learn the vernacular, the language of writing, if you don't do both. And find an author whose work you both like and respect, read their works extensively, learn to emulate their style (how they write) so you will eventually find your own as well as your own voice when putting pen to paper. And don't confuse emulation with plagiarism, but know the difference between context and content. Don't ever lift the contents of another writer's work and copy it as your own. That's cheating and trouble you just don't want to have to explain or deal with legally. Be genuine, be yourself, be true to your readers.
R.E. Vaughn The freedom to express your thoughts and observations in a tangible way.
R.E. Vaughn I don't think I've ever had writer's block. When I can't write, it's usually something I can pinpoint as a cause—fatigue, distraction, lack of desire in the moment, and so on. The best plan of action when I hit those moments is to simply put the pen and paper away, and just take a breather by walking or napping. I always come back to my writing refreshed and ready to write again!
