louise inglis asked Robert Dugoni:

I am fascinated by the whole writing process, when you have the initial idea for a book do you see that it will be a series. Or does it start as a stand alone novel? Is there a difference in beginning a single book and one that you envisage as part of a series?

Robert Dugoni I always start as a stand alone. I don't ever want the reader to feel like she didn't get a full experience from a novel. If the novel is successful, I then think about a series, but it's usually a continuation of the characters, not the primary story.
