Jana asked Scott Sigler:

I'm wondering if your new book Alive (which I understand is YA) has any chance to live up to the sometimes very adult, dark, gory goodness that The Infected series, or Nocturnal, or even Ancestor delivered? Don't get me wrong YA is ok sometimes, but what I really want is the vivid, intense, grisly, awesomeness that is your imagination. Anyway, thanks for all you've done. I hope there's much more to come.

Scott Sigler Personally, I think this ALIVE a blood-bath and there are a couple of deeply disturbing scenes. So, this novel is consistent with my style. But because the storyline is based on kids, and because the milieu dictates kids that don't curse, Del Rey feels the book is best served marketing it as YA. A story told from the perspective of a 12-year-old doesn't have the same sensibilities as one told from an adult's perspective. That's the publisher's call.
