I'm an audiobook listener, I used to read a lot but just don't have the time to sit for any length nor do I have the concentration anymore. As far as artwork, am I missing a lot of this from your books besides the cover? Do you have maps and the like? Thanks in advance - your books take me to a places I won't ever forget.

There are maps sometimes. I used to be kind of anti-map -- just don't find them useful, and a little spoilery -- but as of the Broken Earth trilogy I decided to experiment with them more often. And I think the map in THE CITY WE BECAME is actually hilarious, many thanks to Orbit's Art Director Lauren Panepinto. Beyond that, the text versions of the books usually have appendices which are just interesting worldbuilding data -- not necessary, but interesting. If you've already got the audiobook, maybe check out a text copy from the library so you can see the end matter and maps!

Will I need to brush up on my plate tectonics to read this one?! Seriously, your first trilogy was heavily scientific sci/fi. I loved it, but getting into the wholly new world was hard, especially as I let too much time lag between the books. Does this new series demand as much from the reader, and is this a concern to you as the author?

Hello Ms Jemisin, There was a number of plot holes in the broken earth Trilogy, are you going to explain those in later books? For example how Hoa the stone eater ended up trapped inside the red obelisk. Will you release an apocrypha to accompany the Broken Earth Trilogy? I would really love to learn more about the Niess.

Hello and thanks for doing this Q and A. 1. I’m looking forward to the Great Cities trilogy, but as the name implies, books two and three will be about cities other than New York. Can you tell us which ones? 2. Would you ever write a series longer than a trilogy? I kind of want to read a longer series from you, but anything you write will be as great as your existing books, so no complaints either way.
