Jennifer asked this question about A Deadly Education (The Scholomance, #1):
So this book is about; a school with no teachers and no grades, where you shouldn't walk down the halls alone but you can't make friends, and it's a terribly dangerous place except for the protagonist, who is the most dangerous person in the building. The summary is one huge contradiction - which is a bit of a letdown. Has anyone an arc on this yet to know if it's any good?

Very refreshing take on the « magic school » angle.
Evil magical creatures, non-human and human are out to get magic users and devour them for their mana, the school gives them the necessary knowledge and practice to survive in the world. Only 50% of the students starting survive their graduation, so everybody has to try their best to get into alliances with others to be among the survivors. The protagonist, Galadriel, starts out in likely the worst possible situation, as her « affinity » is to become a supremely dangerous evil sorceress, and while she does not want to go down that path, most others believe she will.(less)
