Just because someone is showing signs that it could be like another book. Doesn't mean that it is a ripoff. It is hard to come up with something in the same category as another awesome and incredible book as twilight. This is not the first book that anyone has probably read that uses the say story line. The thing about this book is that Tracy Wolff puts her own story and makes it her own. You can't ignore the fact that she is a great author with her own style.

It's definitely a ripoff/piggyback/wannabe. I can't believe they went with that cover. Not only that but the book itself tries to be cute (I guess?) by mentioning Twilight. The whole thing is cringe IMO. It's like a blended up mix of every bad paranormal YA trope of 2008-2012 juiced and pulped and then poured into the pages of whatever this is supposed to be. It literally has no plot. Random things happen with zero connection. Save yourself from the torture.

Are there vampires, yes.
Is there a love interest that is a vampire, yes.
There are many pop culture references like Twilight, Legacies, Vampire Academy...no quotes.
It's not a ripoff by any means. The lead is about as opposite of Bella as you can get. There are also more super natural beings of all types not just vampires and werewolves.

It really is not a ripoff of Twilight. It is not like it at all. We cannot assume that Tracy Wolff may or may not have used the series as inspiration, but the contents of this book and the events do not mirror Twilight at all.
Over here someone said that there was not a plot and everything was mixed and nonsensical. However, there was a point to the story, a clear one, and everything was nicely laid out and flowed. The first book was mostly used to set up for the rest of the series; this is what I am assuming considering the ending and the events of the book. It was more of a set up book.
Just as other books are, as the storyline progressed things connected, realizations were made, and everything fell into place. If you haven't finished the book you cannot make assumptions about it being a "bad/unclear plot". If you have read it and still feel the same way, what made you feel that way?

It's NOT a ripoff of twilight and I can confirm by my many reasons:
1) LGBTQIA+ representation in the form of the following characters:
-Flint Montgomery [Gay]
-Gwen (the witch) [Lesbian]
-Luca [gay]
-Eden (There are implications) [questioning]
-Jaxon (Even though he was mated to Grace, his true potential mate is a male {I'm not gonna spoil that surprise}) [unrealized bisexual]
2) Grace is not a human [Unlike Bella Cullen]
I won't spoil and say what she is but she isn't a human. She has badass powers and this alone makes a difference. Bella isn't a vampire until the last book in the saga, Breaking Dawn. Up to that point, people are just trying to assassinate her, she's been having mental breakdowns, and the side-characters don't have personalities.Yay. :D
3) Grace isn't useless {don't @ me}
Bella is sort of useless during the WHOLE series. It's only her romance with Edward that is keeping her alive tbh. She's always running from SOMETHING or getting beaten up by SOMEONE (I mean she IS human in a world of vampires I don't blame her) or trying to save SOMETHING.I mean, I was cheering for the Cullen Coven during the standoff in Breaking Dawn but still. You might be complaining that Grace was useless for almost the entirety of the first book, but Bella was useless for, like, TWO THIRDS OF THE SERIES.
4) There's more than what meets the Fang
In Twilight, the only paranormals known are vampires and wolves. But in Crave, it's a whole multiverse of myths and legends!
There are the following abnormal creatures:
-Dragons
-Witches
-Sirens
-Gargoyles
-Mermaids
-Fairies
-Manticores
- And so, SO much MORE paranormals than twilight.
5) Character development is cool as fuck now
The thing about Crave is that Grace is GROWING throughout the whole series. At first it's about her getting over her grief about her parents' deaths. Then it's about figuring out her identity as a paranormal and using her powers, all the while deciding between two boys she loves. She almost gets killed a dozen times but that's kinda the only similarity between Bella and Grace. Grace isn't only trying to sort out her love life, she is also balancing her education while trying to stop a evil monarch from hurting the people she loves.
6) The Mating Bond works differently this time
There are differences between the mating bond (A.K.A imprinting) in Crave and in Twilight:
Crave's mating bond rules:
-You can have more than one mate in your lifetime
-There is a way to break the bond
- If you are attracted to someone else that is the same gender as yourself, the mating bond won't take effect unless that person becomes aware of their sexuality
Twilight's mating bond rules:
-When you imprint on someone, you are there to be anything they need you to be. A teacher, best friend, parental figure, lover, anyone who will take care of you
- When someone imprints on you, they legit will ADORE YOU and protect you with ALL THEIR MIGHT (gee, I wish lol)
Crave is very different in many different ways and you just got to read past Crave and read the sequel, Crush, to see that.

Nope. It does mention Twilight but it's not a rip-off of it by any means. I think Grace is a more likable character than Bella and this takes place in Alaska in a school of other supernatural creatures than just vamps.
Marta the Booktrovert
It's better than Twilight.
Mallory
While I can't defend the cover, the book itself is not a ripoff of Twilight by any means. The only similarity is that both books involve vampires, besides that it is completely unique.
katie c
This is not a rip-off of Twilight at all. Yes there are vampires, yes there is a romance involving vampires, no, the main character is nothing like Bella, and no, this is not a rip-off of Twilight.
Grace is more likable in my opinion and suits well to the reality and plot. Twilight is mentioned in the book, however, the author has crafted a nail-biting story that is very well written that is very different and unique.

After having read it: it definitely takes a lot of cues from Twilight, including action beats.
(Minor spoilers ahead, most are easily guessed from from going "this takes a lot of action beats from Twilight)
Protagonist comes to isolated community due to not being able to be with her primary parent. Protagonist draws the attention and interest of the most popular\aloof\wanted dude in the school even though she is bland. Everyone obsesses with her "New Girl" status. Love interest runs hot and cold, constantly tries to warn her off him and tell her she's in danger but does nothing to explain what he means. Attractive other pseudo love interest is fascinated by her, but it's very obvious he doesn't have a chance romantically, so it's a fake love triangle. Protagonist is constantly getting hurt and needing to be saved and helped. Love Interest saves Protagonist's life early on by using supernatural powers which triggers her obsession with him and her suspicious that he is "not normal". Protagonist falls in love with him because he's so beautiful and it's the only thing she fixates on.
However, after midpoint, and when she discovers he's a vampire it stops following Twilight. So I'd say 50% Twilight Rippoff - although what constitutes a ripoff may vary. Some people think there is nothing original any more.

It is a literal rip-off/piggyback. I'm barely halfway through and I'm so disappointed. Like there are twilight quotes for gods sake.
Hadessephy
It's a story that stands in its own rite. I could believe Twilight was an inspiration and I gotta wonder if the cover is maybe a joke. However it is its own story and so far I like it!
Grace
dude! this is exactly what i thought when i saw the cover. it looks exactly like twilight! i have never read twilight and it's not really on my bucket list, so as for the content itself, i can't speak to that. but i can't believe the publisher let this cover fly. unbelievable.
Ella Kennedi Fisher
It may be like twilgint but ther a lot of parts that have nothing to with that
A.
I dont think it is a ripoff twilight. Accually in Crave Jaxon goives grace a copy of Twilight with a quote on the inside. (the quote was "I said we should stay away from eachother, not that I want to."
Adina
It is not, although I would say that the author wanted it to be judging by the subject matter and cover art. I am a Twilight fan and I feel like I was duped into buying Crave. Twilight has a very good love story and is full of heart and interesting mythology, although I get it's not for everyone and Stephanie's writing could have been better. Crave is not like that. The writing reads like shitty romance novel territory and the story is more like the Vampire Diaries. I watched a couple episodes like a decade ago and then read the wikipedia about it. Virtually the same dumb garbage.
Kim Holt
I would think there is some kind of copyright ruling regarding the appearance of the book. I mean I took one look at her books and thought it was part of the Twilight series. Font looks the same, single word titles, simple pic using white, black and hint of red. And it’s a vampire book for heavens sake. I won’t read it for these reasons alone. Make your book your own!!!
Heather Pierce
Definitely not a rip off of Twilight, for one thing I actually like the main character Grace. In Twilight I couldn't stand Bella. She's not a whiner like Bella was. Check it out!
Shan
I don't think so. I thought it would be at first, but I was pleasantly surprised with some unique additions to the story line and setting, for sure. I think Twilight is so well known that it's hard not to focus on any small similarities, which occur in any genres. I would recommend finishing the book before deciding.
Beth
The short answer is, this book definitely looks like a rip off when you look at it. The cover with the black background and the image in the middle looks exactly like it should be in the Twilight series but if you read the book you realize (At least I did,) that it absolutely should not.
(Thanks to Aashi and Lionquill who I agree with. Their comments are further down, though I will not be going into so much detail as they did 😁)
So without further adieu here's my opinion:
The first 200 hundred pages or so was me complaining that this was exactly Twilight and I'm basically reading the same book but after that I started to realize I was completely wrong. Sure it's about vampires and a girl who finds herself in a world she assumed was just fiction, and I could name 100 similarities but 10,000 differences.
The fact that the author incorporated the actual Twilight book into this told me that she realized, at least to some degree, that this might sound similar to Twilight .
The difference I will name is Twilight seemed like it was more serious, with less jokes and an overall funny side which was so different from this book which loved to add humor here and there even when the tension was high. (Forgive me if I'm mistaken by this it's been a while since I read Twilight)
To summarize, this book looks really similar and for a while it's the same but the more you read, especially further in the actual series, the more it spirals off into it's own style and overall a beautiful book.🫠🧡🧛

I know I'm coming in super late here, but I think whether or not you like this book is largely based on taste. As someone who went through the Twilight phase in middle school when the franchise was at its peak, I don't think Crave is a ripoff or very similar at all aside from the vampire aspect. I enjoyed Twilight because I related to Bella's shy, homebody personality and I still do. In my opinion, (someone who enjoys a good vampire book done well) Crave just isn't good. I think more of her inspiration came from the Vampire Diaries spinoff Legacies, it's even referenced in the book along with Twilight, and as we all have pointed out the cover was shockingly similar--the reason I picked it up in the first place. But the book just isn't good. I've never read anything else by Tracey Wolf and if she is a decent writer then she definitely shlopped this together with no thought with the sole purpose being to write a popular YA book and she knew that vampires had been a hot commodity in the past. A lot of people enjoy it, which is fine, but the writing is poor, the plot is basically non existent, the characters are one dimensional etc. I could go on forever, but it's just not good. But, I'm saying this as someone who has moved well out of the YA genre and is into more adult fantasy/murder mystery type stuff, I enjoy more mature writing. I DNFd this book after a good chunk because I could not physically make myself continue. It was too cringe. I've watched a lot of rant reviews though and over all it just seems like she rushed the story and didn't even try at decent writing.
Skye
It's 100% a ripoff. It came out after Twilight, It reverences stuff from Twilight. I don't care if I'm being biased but Crave IS A RIPOFF. also it should give credit to Stephanie Meyer for idea, otherwise violating copy-rights.
J
are there differences? yes. the story itself takes a very different turn to that of twilight. but did i get the feeling that it was twilight fan fiction? yes, i did. it had the same sort of plot in terms of a girl moves to a new area/school, meets the most popular and mysterious guy that she then learns isn’t who she thought he might be. even the cover has the exact same layout as twilight, which i’m honestly surprised she got away with. the same lower case title at the top, the same simplistic photo in the middle that has the same white and red colours, the authors name at the very bottom, the same font in red and white on the back. i think it has the potential to do as well as twilight, maybe even better, but i do think it was heavily influenced by twilight.
Lyla
I think this book was inspired from Twilight and Harry Potter. But I don't think it was copied. I've read both the Harry Potter Series and Twilight series, and would definitely recommend this book to you.
Bat Girl
WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS COVER> like....who approved this?
Kamree Wood
It mirrors Twilight (a little bit--the main character keeps having near death experiences and the main guy keeps saving her) at first, but then it turns into something really different with a few plot twists that are sorta predictable if you are good at predicting things
book reader
I don't think it's a ripoff but then again I haven't read the book yet and until today I thought it was a twilight book...
Pinakin Choudhary
It is definitely NOT a rip off. The story is quite different than Twilight, not to mention there are more mystical creatures like dragons, gargoyles, witches and so on. And can I just say that the plot gets better with each book ! There are going to be unpredictable twist in the story later in the series, so hold tight !
And it might FEEL like a twilight rip off only in the first book in the series because I think most of the vampire story beginnings have similarities !
Also Grace is bolder than Bella !

Okay no, it's not Like twilight, did anyone but me pick up VAMPIRE DIARIES like duh!!!!!! hmmm the whole HUMAN SACRIFICE THING with Elena Gilburt, she is also a freaking human sacrifice!! or the bad boy Vibes from Hudson and then the Damon Salvatore vibes, they both get together and in both, she leaves her guy for her boyfriend, Elena is sired to Damon, Grace is Mated to Hudson! DUH DUH DUUHHH, Stephen dies for Damon, and Hudson dies for Jaxon, actually, both ways after he comes back to life JUST LOOK AT THE COMPARISON!!!
Alex Hunter
besides the cover i dont think its anything like twilight.
i actually did pick this book of banse and noble because of the cover and how much it reminded me of twilight. but after reading it it is better then twilight. it has become my new favorite book series

I don't think it's that much of a ripoff. There being a vampire doesn't make it a ripoff even though it might seem like it.
Rebecca Olivares
No, it's not. This has different creatures in it, like dragons, witches, warlocks, and gargoyles. It's not a ripoff of Twilight. It's kinda the same as Twilight but Bella wasn't any other creature in Twilight. She was human. In Crave, Grace is a gargoyle. There's a big difference between Twilight and Crave.
LizaLoveReads
Absolutely. It's definitely twilight fanfic. There's even a Jacob character and they all look the same. I'd skip.
Perrie Tucker
The story is way different from Twilight. I think Twilight was better. I did like Crave and I'm reading Crush now. There were some plot issues with Crave. There's a scene where she's dressed for school and even mentions each peice she puts on then a few hours later, instead of going to class she mentions she needs to go to her dorm to put on her uniform. Then later in the book during a major plot there's mention that one of the characters set up the MC, Grace and everyone knew she had been set up by this person but no one tells Grace, no one tries to stop this other character and it seemed like if it had been written differently where only this particular character knew what was up it would have made more sense. It felt odd that all the other characters knew. I know that's weird but I'm trying not to spoil anything.
Katie Thompson
I would say it is. Are there some differences yes. But it is marketed like Twilight for a reason. Because if you were to vaguely describe this book, the first response people would guess it as would be Twilight.
A snarky girl moves to a different state and meets a mysterious boy that she is strangely attracted to. But later learns he might be the one she should be afraid of.
