Michelle Contreras ( Palabras de Otoño)

Was it always your dream to be a writer?

Colleen Hoover When I was four, my sister came home from school and wrote our address down on a piece of paper. I remember that moment because it was the first time I grasped the concept of reading and writing. I was extremely jealous of her because she could read and write and I didn't know how. I remember being very excited for kindergarten to start. I came home after the first day of school really upset because I thought I'd know how to read and write that first day and we only learned the letter A. It was very frustrating because I had so many stories I wanted to tell and no way to get them out. We learned one letter a day. I don't remember much about the age of 5, but I do remember those moments of wanting to write and not knowing how. It's interesting now when I look back on it because I realize I was developing a passion very early on. I wrote my first story at the age of 5 called Mystery Bob and it's been a passion since then.
I didn't major in writing in college, though. I went to school to be a social worker because I was a very insecure writer. Still am. I'm not sure that will every go away.
