Linda Anderson asked this question about The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1):
Is this appropriate for upper elementary? I know a hi-cap reader who has breezed through several book series, including Septimus Heap, Narnia and Harry Potter. What is the recommended age level for these books based on content (rather than reading ability)?

But there's no sex, no real swear words, and even the violence is not particularly graphic.

But no, I don't think that it's appropriate just due to its complexity. I wouldn't have a problem letting my kids read it at 10-11 years old, but I can't imagine many kids that age would really understand much about what's going on. On top of that, it's a very slow book and likely wouldn't keep kids that age interested. (less)
