RaiderofLibraries asked Jennifer A. Nielsen:

I noticed that between writing the Ascendance Series and the Mark of the Thief, your writing became so much more refined! Was there any specific reason for the improvement or did it happen on its own? Also, what advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Jennifer A. Nielsen This might be one of my all-time favorite questions, and thanks for noticing.

The simplest answer is that hopefully, I'm getting better as a writer. I like to say that the best book I've ever written is my next book. I am constantly working to improve because there are always ways to improve as a writer.

Which might be the right advice to give here - understand that writing is a journey. If you're not as good as you wish to be today, then keep at it, you will be better tomorrow. Don't lose patience with yourself or feel that if you are not publishable today that you won't get there. Just keep writing and learning and reading. Every one of us is on that path, and that's the road to making great art.
