I am half way through the book and I'm enjoying it, but one question still remains. Why didn't Olivia spend her quarantine time alone, instead of with her family that could contact Haag from her? You would almost think that the government would insist upon it.

Yes, absolutely. This novel requires suspension of disbelief; but thankfully not as much as with most Xmas stories, which are heavy on the cheese.
