abby asked Cornelia Funke:

Hi Cornelia! I am a huge fan of your books and I am also an aspiring author. I was hoping you might have some advice for me about sticking to writing. How many words would you recommend trying to write in a day? I also have so many ideas, but I jump around and never finish. I have finally chosen one to see through first, but now I am having trouble finishing my plot and just writing in general. Any advice?

Cornelia Funke Shallan, if you need someone to make you stick to writing, you may not like to do it as much as you think? For me writing is like chocolate or coffee, I need my friends to get me away from it from time to time:))) For sure you cannot make yourself write with a number count of words. I usually write four pages a day, but there are others where I just fill many notebook pages with ideas thoughts, questions for my stories...if you start jumping you lost the heartbeat of the story and need to go back to find where you lost it. The heart beat that draws you in, makes you want to follow it...books feed on passion and time. it takes me three years to finish one, and at least eight rewrites. If you don't enjoy that....maybe there is another passion waiting to be lived inside you?
