Hello: My name is Carol Smith. I am a mother and grandmother of eight children. The title of your book "The Orphans of Raspay" has my attention. I have not read the synopsis. What can you tell me about this book that would make me want to read it?
Lois McMaster Bujold
The synopsis on the vendor pages is accurate, because I wrote it myself. Ferex https://www.amazon.com/Orphans-Raspay... also on iBooks and Nook.
I can't tell if you would like it, because every reader is different, but I can say the hero in this novella is a grownup, with grownup-level problems, which include looking out for other people.
It's fine to start here -- the story stands alone -- although there is a beginning to the arc, featuring a younger Penric, "Penric's Demon", that tells how his string of adventures first got started.
If you do read it/them, do report back and tell us how/if you enjoyed them.

Rereading the Vorkosigan saga again. Is Beta Colony your idea of how society should be? I mean all of the cultures have drawbacks - like therapy on Beta is rather scary. But Beta seems to be the most inclusive live and let live, scientifically driven of the worlds.

I'm interested in hearing about your early career if that's okay. :) What lessons have you learned about the business and the craft of writing that you wished you had known in the beginning? Do you write by hand, do you type, do you use dictation technology or a bit of all three? I just began reading the Vorkosigan Saga for the first time. I am now reading over 4 hours a day. Haha! Thank you for your work. :)
