I love high fantasy like Tolkien but don't really like dark fantasy such as this book. It is very dark and if it weren't for the recommendation of a friend I probably would have quit this book as it isn't really the kind of thing I read. IF you aren't used to super dark themes including rape and assault I would leave this one on the self. It is handled in a mature way, but I still ended up skipping and skimming several scenes.(less)
